A Message from Village President, Steve Ward
A note to our residents and friends,
South Elgin families, volunteers and civic leaders have built a wonderful Village. We love the place we call home -- the safe neighborhoods, plentiful greenspaces, community festivals, award-winning parks and so much more. Our entrepreneurs and business owners have built a thriving economy and attracted new housing developments, restaurants and retailers.
And now that thriving economy faces an unexpected threat.Social distance is the best route to restoring daily life to something similar to what we’ve always known. We encourage everyone to practice it diligently. We also know most of the community feels symptom-free and healthy enough to get out and buy groceries and paper products – even if sometimes it might be a bit too much of it.
While you’re out, please remember your local restaurants too. We want them to survive this downturn and enjoy the benefits of better days ahead. Consider buying at least one carry-out/curbside-delivery meal each week from your favorite pub or restaurant. Purchase gift cards directly from those places too. Consider it a down payment to a future dinner with your family and friends.
And don’t forget your elderly neighbors and family members whose age or health shouldn’t have them waiting in a 45-minute line to buy milk. Now is your chance to provide curbside meal/grocery delivery to the folks you love. And please remember the hourly wage-earners who suddenly find themselves in need of the South Elgin Food Pantry or other assistance.
We have built a wonderful Village. With your help, kindness and generosity it will only get better. See you in the drive-thru lane.
