Veterans Plaza will Include Engraved Pavers

The Veterans Task Force, formed in 2021, is comprised of military veterans and family members of veterans who live in South Elgin. The group’s initial tasks involved:
• Identifying a physical space designed for quiet reflecting as well as ceremonial gatherings
• Naming a space designed to honor local veterans and memorialize those who have passed.
The Veterans Plaza located outside the new Public Safety Center will accomplish both of these goals. With the assistance and approval of the Village Board, the plaza will include lighted flagpoles, a wall with brass plaques for Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and Space Force, a small water feature, sensory garden and engraved pavers honoring Veterans.

How to Order Engraved Pavers
The Veterans Plaza Paver Form is available at Village Hall and here.
Pavers will measure 4"x 8" and include the following information: Rank & Name; Branch of Service; and Years Served. Those who can be recognized with an engraved paver include: Current or former residents that are veterans, or a veteran who has family residing in South Elgin. Engraved pavers will cost $75, and those wishing to contribute $75 to help a veteran who cannot afford a paver can do so too. Order forms must be turned in and payment processed at Village Hall. NOTE: Proof of enlistment, DD214, or current/active honorable discharge papers must be copied and turned in with the order form. If assistance is needed in getting this information, contact Jacob Zimmerman at Kane County Veterans Assistance Commission at zimmermanjacob@kanecountyil.gov. Paver orders are accepted anytime. However, to ensure your paver is prepared and installed during the Veterans Plaza construction, please place your order by April 11, 2024. For those interested in ordering an engraved paver for Footprints in Time, we will have information available this summer.
