National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in August (Texas and select areas celebrate on the first Tuesday in October). Neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and much, much more.

Did you know that in 2019, the South Elgin Police Department earned 5th place nationwide for communities with 15,000 – 50,000 population? Yep, we sure did and we couldn’t have done so without the great residents of South Elgin! The event was even visited (virtually from Paris) by Oscar award winning actor J.K. Simmons best known for his roles in Spiderman, Law and Order, Whiplash, and Farmers Insurance commercials! Check out some of these highlights from the 2019 National Night Out event.

While the National Night Out event for 2021 was cancelled due to uncertainty surrounding COV ID-19 mitigation efforts, we look forward to spending time  this summer with the community at Movie Nights in the Park and National Night Out in 2022!
