Stormwater Management

The Village of South Elgin works to manage the impact of stormwater runoff. Stormwater runoff is generated by rooftops, roads, parking lots and other impervious surfaces that inhibit rainwater from soaking into the ground. These surfaces can also mix pollutants deposited from the atmosphere, leaked from vehicles, or blown-in during a storm with the rain water. As the pollutants and rain water wash off, they are delivered to downstream rivers, creeks, ponds and lakes. Stormwater management practices work to improve water quality and reduce flooding associated with surface runoff.
