Spring Street Resurfacing Project

May 13, 2022: Grinding and Asphalt Replacement – Spring Street from McLean Blvd to IL Rte 31
During the week of May 16 the contractor will begin grinding/milling (and patching as necessary) the existing pavement. Next, the contractor will apply a layer of fresh oil followed by the fist layer of new asphalt. Then the sewer frames and grates will be adjusted, and topsoil and seeding will be placed. The final paving step involves another layer of fresh oil followed by the last layer of new asphalt.

During this process residents will have access to driveways, but please account for delays while the contractor is working.

There will be NO ON-STREET PARKING on Spring Street between the hours of 7am-6pm. Emergency vehicles will always have access and garbage service will continue, (though garbage/recycling may be picked up early morning before the contractor begins work). Please know the construction schedule depends upon cooperative weather and is subject to delays.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Tony Bianchin, Resident Engineer at 847-921-7255 or Mike Millette, Director of Public Works at 847-695-2742. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as this improvement project continues!

April 28, 2022: The Village's contractor, Plote, began a resurfacing project Monday, April 25 on Spring Street. The stretch of Spring Street between Rt 31 and McLean will be entirely resurfaced (beginning at Rt 31 and working their way west toward McLean). Motorists should expect delays. Anticipated completion is late June. With the recent Nicor and water main replacement projects, we understand lane closures and re-routing are nothing new to this area. If you have developed an alternate route, it might be a good idea to stick with it while this project takes place. In the meantime, we will look forward to years of pleasant road when this is complete, and anticipate a smooth route for the 4th of July parade! Watch for updates at www.facebook.com/southelginillinois or the Village's website. Thank you.
