Tracking household water usage via personal computer and identifying costly water leaks are just two of the advantages provided by smart water meters. Beginning late 2021 and for the next two years, the Village will embark upon a $2.2 million project replacing existing household water meters. We will continue to update this webpage southelgin.com/SmartMeter as the project unfolds, and questions and suggestions arise. Please see the list of related resources in the left column of this page. This project is also an ideal time to update your utility billing contact information if necessary. An online form is available in the Forms & Applications section of the website, or you can find it here.

The Spring 2023 Village Light newsletter featured information and updates regarding the Smart Meter project. Please click here to see information about the project, how to prepare for the quick swap of your existing meter and answers to frequently asked questions.

Installations will take place, generally, in a neighborhood-by-neighborhood manner. See installation map here. Residents will be contacted via letter (example shown here) to request setting up an appointment for the installation.
