Residents are served by two excellent public library systems.  Refer to your tax bill to see which library district you belong to. 

The Gail Borden Public Library is located directly north of Kimball Street on the Fox River at 270 North Grove Avenue in Elgin. The library offers a wide variety of services and collections for library users.  Weekly hours are Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.; Friday-Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.; and Sunday 1:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. (September through May).  The Gail Borden Library has a South Elgin branch located at 127 McLean Boulevard.   

The St. Charles Public Library serves a population of approximately 48,000 residents of the Fox River Valley including portions of South Elgin. The library, with a collection of nearly 275,000 books and other materials, offers a wide variety of information and recreational reading to meet the expectations of both the general public and local businesses.  Weekly hours are Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.; Friday 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.; Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; and Sunday 12:00 p.m. – 5:00  p.m.
