Open Positions: 
Public Works: Maintenance I (Water - Utility Services)
The Village of South Elgin is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Maintenance Worker I for the Utility Services (Water) Division of the Public Works department. This position is under the general supervision of the Water Production Foreman, Water Superintendent and the Director of Public Works. The primary focus of this position will be a variety of tasks, including but not limited to the maintenance and repair of the water supply, pumping, storage and distribution system as well as the sanitary collection systems and associated lift stations. This position repairs and maintains equipment in compliance with generally accepted standards and regulations.
 
Qualifications include two (2) years of experience in the Utility Services and/or construction industry, graduation from high school or GED equivalent or any equivalent combination of education and experience. A Class C Water Operators License issued by the ILEPA is desired. Ability and willingness to respond to emergency situations twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week. In addition, a valid State Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) with air-brake endorsement and tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain within 6 months is required. Normal work hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

The Village offers an excellent compensation and benefit package with a starting salary of $25.54 per hour. Parks & Recreation Department: Summer Day Camp Counselor Part-Time (Seasonal)
The Village of South Elgin is seeking employees to work Summer Day Camp at SEBA Park. Qualifications include a minimum of 16 years of age; must be enthusiastic, organized, energetic, enjoy working with children of all ages, and must possess excellent communication skills. Applicant must be available M-F from 7am-6pm (must be available at least 3 days). This position spends the majority of time outside with the campers and must be willing to be in the swimming pool on field trip days. This position may lead into other employment opportunities in the Parks & Recreation department.

This part-time position does not earn benefits; starting salary is $13/hour.

Parks & Recreation Department: Laborer (Seasonal-Summer)
The Village of South Elgin is seeking a candidate for the position of Seasonal Laborer in the Parks and Recreation Department. The candidate will perform a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work and operate a variety of equipment and tools in a landscaping and parks capacity. The position will work either Monday thru Friday 7am-3pm, Tuesday through Saturday 7am – 3pm shift or a Sunday through Thursday 7am – 3pm shift. These positions will start on or after May 1 – August 31. Work assignments will include basic maintenance of the parks and buildings and grounds areas which may vary according to seasonal and emergency needs and priorities of the Department.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, have a High School diploma or general education degree (GED) and posses a valid Illinois Driver’s License.  This position does not offer benefits. Pay will be $15/hour with 30-40 hour work weeks. Parks and Recreation: Maintenance I
The Village of South Elgin is a dynamic organization serving a community of roughly 24,000 residents in the far western suburbs of Chicago. We are recruiting for a Maintenance I worker in the Parks & Recreation Department that works with the Village’s parks, trails and natural areas. This position, under the general supervision of the Maintenance II, Parks & Recreation Superintendent and/or Director, is responsible for, but not limited to, performing a variety of manual, semi-skilled, and skilled tasks in the construction, cleaning, maintenance and repair of Village owned property and its services, along with playing an integral role in snow removal activities throughout the Village. Qualifications include possession of a high school diploma or G.E.D. A minimum of two (2) years of experience in Parks & Recreation, Public Works and/or construction industry or municipal maintenance field is strongly preferred; or a combination of education and experience which demonstrates ability to perform the work. For a candidate to be successful in this position they must have the ability to safely operate various types of manual and powered equipment, including but not limited to: rollers, backhoe, end loader, skid steer, maintenance tractor, aerator, top dresser, broadcast spreader, snowblower, forklift, power washer, water cannon, vehicle cleaning system, field striper, shovels, power saws, compressors, tampers, rakes, and all of its attachments, etc. The Maintenance I worker is expected to be in training on the use of the equipment listed. They should also possess working knowledge of parks, playground, natural areas and open space procedures, repair and techniques; as well as a working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of all pertinent machinery, equipment and tools.

Current possession of a valid State of Illinois Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) is a plus or the ability to obtain a CDL Class B license with air brake endorsement within 6 months of hire is required. Normal work hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Response to after-hours call-backs seven days a week, including evenings, weekends and holidays and in response to emergency situations such as sanitary sewer backups, flooding from rain events, snow removal, playground repair and to support other Village departments/divisions in the abatement of emergency situations. Work includes primarily outdoor work in various types of weather conditions.
