Parks & Recreation Department: Laborer (Summer)
The Village of South Elgin is seeking a candidate for the position of Seasonal Laborer in the Parks and Recreation Department. The candidate will perform a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work and operate a variety of equipment and tools in a landscaping and parks capacity. The position will work either a Tuesday through Saturday shift or a Sunday through Thursday shift. Work assignments will include basic maintenance of the parks and buildings and grounds areas which may vary according to seasonal and emergency needs and priorities of the Department. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, have a High School diploma or general education degree (GED) and possess a valid Illinois Driver’s License. This position does not offer benefits. The salary is $13/hour with 35-40 hour work weeks.

Engineering Summer Intern (FT temporary position)
The Village of South Elgin is seeking a temporary summer engineering intern. The internship program is geared toward college students seeking to supplement their academic training, and expand their professional knowledge and skills in the engineering field, and will provide students with real-world experience.
The primary purpose of this position is to support the Village Public Works staff by conducting inspections, surveys, measuring quantities, collecting data, preparing reports and calculations, and performing research. The project types may include roadway paving, storm water, water and sewer, parking lot, sidewalk, and curb and gutter improvements for public and private construction. General office work such as scanning and filing may be required. Interns will receive direction, guidance, and mentoring from technical and management staff within the Public Works department.
The ideal candidate will be pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or other closely related field and will have completed at least one academic year of college coursework. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid Illinois driver’s license.
The candidate should have strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to complete reports and calculations using Microsoft Word and Excel. Must be willing to conduct outdoor site visits, sometimes in adverse weather conditions; perform moderate lifting on a frequent basis; and be able to drive a Village passenger vehicle. Receiving an internship offer is contingent upon the candidate’s successful completion of a background and driving record check, and medical and drug screening.
Hourly Rate: $13 per/hour.
This position is for 40 hours per week (7:00 am – 3:30 pm) May 2021 through August 2021 (exact dates can be flexible with the candidate’s school schedule).
