Open Positions: 
Police Department - Community Service Officer

The Village of South Elgin, IL is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Community Service Officer in the Police Department.  Under the direction of the Deputy Chief, the Community Service Officer (CSO) is responsible for the enforcement of all animal related ordinances, local parking ordinances, and the performance of police related tasks which do not involve criminal or follow-up investigation. CSO’s may also be assigned duties as crossing  guards, matrons, records clerks, Property and Evidence custodians, abandoned vehicle officers and training officers.  Work involves an element of danger and may place the employee in situations that demand unusual strength and endurance.  The employee must be able to exercise sound independent judgement and composure while dealing with the public.  Work assignments are general and specific instructions are received from a supervisor who reviews work methods and results through reports, personal inspections and discussions.

Qualifications include possessing a high school diploma or equivalent; a valid Illinois Driver’s License, and obtain and maintain CPR certification.  Must be free of felonies, and serious misdemeanor convictions. Normal working hours for this position are 8:30am - 5pm, Monday through Friday. Occasional overtime may be required.  The Village offers an excellent compensation and benefit package with a starting salary of $52,562. Public Works Department - Maintenance Worker I
The Village of South Elgin is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Maintenance Worker I, in the Public Works Department.  The successful candidate will perform a variety of manual, semi-skilled and skilled tasks in construction, maintenance, and repair of Village owned property and its services. Qualifications include graduation from high school or GED equivalent, knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, construction methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Two (2) years’ experience in Public Works and/or construction industry preferred.  In addition, a valid State Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) with air-brake endorsement and tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain within 6 months.  Ability and willingness to respond to emergencies twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week and carry a wireless communication device.

Normal work hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.   The Village offers an excellent compensation and benefit package with a starting salary of $24.30 per hour. Parks and Recreation Department - Program Supervisor (PT)
The Village of South Elgin is seeking an individual who will supervise The Hub-E Learning program at Clinton Elementary School, and possibly After Shock (after School Program) at Corron Elementary school.  Responsibilities include: interacting with children, parent, staff and school officials; providing an environment that encourages social growth; and leading and supervising children in E-learning and activities, such as crafts and organized games. Qualifications include a high school diploma or higher degree; 18 years of age; a valid state driver’s license without record of suspension or revocation in any state; computer skills, CPR certification a plus.  Applicants must possess excellent communication skills; be enthusiastic, organized, energetic, and enjoy working with children of all ages.  Hours for Clinton School are Tuesday and Thursday 7:00 a.m.- 3:15 p.m.; Corron School, Monday, Wednesday and Friday 1:30 p.m.– 6:00 p.m. Salary is $11.00 per hour. This position does not earn benefits.

Parks and Recreation Department - Preschool Assistant (PT)
The Village of South Elgin is seeking an individual, who will assist the preschool classes with various tasks at the end of class daily, including following cleaning protocols set by SEPR staff.  Qualifications include: minimum of 16 years of age, and a valid state driver’s license without record of suspension or revocation in any state.  Applicants must possess excellent communication skills and be able to follow written directions.  Must be enthusiastic, organized, energetic, and enjoy working with children of all ages.  Hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday 3-6 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday 1-4 p.m., however hours may be flexible. Salary is $10.00 per hour. This position does not earn benefits.

Police Department - Crossing Guard (PT)
The Village of South Elgin is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Crossing Guard.  The successful candidates will perform the duty of assisting children in crossing right-of-ways within the Village.  Applicants will ensure patterns of safe behavior, prevent unsafe acts, and report minor and major problems involving children while crossing streets to appropriate school officials. Qualifications include the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions; must be able to lift a portable traffic signal and be prompt and reliable when reporting to work. This is a half hour in the morning and a half an hour in the afternoon position, working 176 days per year, with no employment benefits offered. Starting salary is $30.00 per hour.
