Open Positions: 

Public Works: Streets and Forestry Superintendent

The Village of South Elgin is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Streets and Forestry Superintendent in the Public Works Department.  This is a highly responsible position which manages the operations of streets, sidewalks, urban forestry, sign maintenance, storm water and related special activities. The Superintendent supervises staff members and their work assignments, which requires the use of judgement and planning in the repair and maintenance of public works infrastructure. Qualifications require a minimum of ten years’ experience in construction, maintenance, and repair of infrastructure.  Minimum of five years managerial and three years progressive supervisory experience.  Any equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Normal work hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. however hours may be flexed in response to some situations.  The Village offers an excellent compensation and benefit package with a starting salary of $79,592.80 to $89,582.40, depending on qualifications.

Public Works: Buildings & Grounds Superintendent
The Village of South Elgin is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Buildings and Grounds Superintendent in the Public Works Department.  This is a highly responsible position which requires the maintenance and general upkeep of all Village-owned buildings and property. This position will supervise staff, and manage outside contractors for a variety of maintenance tasks.  Position primarily manages staff members work assignments, however the Superintendent is expected to have skills, ability and willingness to perform some work as needed in particular snow removal and minor building repairs. The Superintendent must use judgement and planning in the repair and maintenance of infrastructure as well as being responsible to maintain a tight budgetary and inventory control.

Qualifications require a minimum of ten years’ experience in construction, maintenance, and repair of buildings and grounds infrastructure. Minimum of five years managerial and three years progressive supervisory experience. Any equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  A valid CDL Class B driver’s license is a plus. Normal work hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. however hours may be flexed in response to some situations.  The Village offers an excellent compensation and benefit package with a starting salary of $38.27 per hour.

Crossing Guard
The Village of South Elgin is seeking qualified candidate for the position of Crossing Guard.  The successful candidate will perform the duty of assisting children in crossing right-of-ways within the Village.  Applicant will ensure patterns of safe behavior, prevent unsafe acts, and report minor and major problems involving children while crossing streets to appropriate school officials. Qualifications include the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions; must be able to lift a portable traffic signal and be prompt and reliable when reporting to work. This is a half hour in the morning and a half an hour in the afternoon position, working 176 days per year, with no employment benefits offered. Position will be available at the beginning of the school year in August. Starting salary is $30.00 per hour.
